Freshmen Features: Part II

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshmen from the Stanford women's lacrosse team answer some frequently asked questions and give some insight into what it's like to be a freshman at Stanford. Our second installment:
What has surprised you the most about your first few months on campus?
Rachel Cowan (Cherry Hills Village, Colorado)
What has pleasantly surprised me about my first few months on campus is how many amazing and incredibly kind people there are here. Everywhere you go, you will meet people who have accomplished so much, whether that is winning a gold medal at the Olympics, starting their own company, or traveling abroad to do research. Every person here is so personable and caring, and the Stanford community is definitely a very welcoming, exciting place. The people are amazing!

Trudie Grattan (Richmond, Virginia)
I was surprised by how easy it was to find buildings around campus. I thought the campus was super complicated, but after being here, everything is really easy to find.

Katherine Gjertsen (Winnetka, Illinois)
I was surprised by the overwhelming amount of incredible resources and opportunities there are on campus. From a multitude of clubs and student groups to the incredible professors, coaches, trainers, advisers and facilities, there are so many resources to help athletes succeed both on and off the field.

Galen Lew (Glen Ridge, New Jersey)
I was surprised how quickly the quarter system works, so you have to make sure you stay on top of your work and athletics at the same time. But the amount of resources you have, whether that be academically or athletically, has really pleasantly surprised me.

Gabby Noto (Atherton, California)
How everyone here is always working on the next big thing. I knew the pace of school and sports was going to be fast, but it shocks me how people can manage all these factors and also be doing monumental things for the world.

Chelsea Trattner (Ridgewood, New Jersey)
The welcoming culture on the lacrosse team and at Stanford. Instantly having 34 close friends when entering college made the transition a lot easier and is something I'm really grateful for. All of my teammates are extremely supportive and very helpful navigating life at college. In general, everyone on campus is extremely friendly.

Marianna Salvatori (Baltimore, Maryland)
Since arriving on campus, I have met so many unique and different people here on campus. What has surprised me the most is how everyone here has an awesome story to tell.

Taylor Scornavacco (San Diego, California)
I think the biggest surprise coming in was the support I received as a student-athlete from all of the amazing academic and athletic resources we have here. It is truly a first class institution.
