STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford led the conference with 35 Pac-12 All-Academic honorees, including a league-best 14 first- and second-team recipients, as announced by commissioner Larry Scott on Thursday.
Stanford's 35 selections were more than twice as many as any other school. Washington had the second-most selections at 17. Utah was third with 16 honorees and Oregon had 14.
The Cardinal had four first-team selections in Nick Wilson (mechanical engineering), Dylan Jackson (political science), Harrison Phillips (double major in science, technology and society, and sociology), and Richard McNitzky (political science). It marked the second straight first-team honor for Phillips and Wilson, while Jackson was a second-team recipient last season.
Stanford accounted for 14 of the 25 spots on the second team. Cameron Scarlett, Dalton Schultz, Jesse Burkett and Devery Hamilton were represented on the offensive team, while Jovan Swann, Casey Toohill, Frank Buncom, Treyjohn Butler, Alijah Holder and Justin Reid were among the defensive team.
In addition, Stanford had 21 on the conference's all-academic honorable mention: Joey Alfieri, Malik Antoine, Jake Bailey, Isaiah Brandt-Sims, David Bright, Keller Chryst, K.J. Costello, Obi Eboh, Ben Edwards, Scooter Harrington, Nate Herbig, Trenton Irwin, Peter Kalambayi, Quenton Meeks, Alameen Murphy, Kevin Palma, Kaden Smith, Donald Stewart, Jet Toner, Jay Tyler and Mike Tyler.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games. Freshmen in their first semester or quarter are not eligible for the award.
No. 14 Stanford (9-3) won the Pac-12 North for the fourth time in seven years under Shaw, and will take on No. 11 USC (10-2) in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday at 5 p.m. PT. ESPN will televise the game.
