STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 18 Stanford field hockey team will host Miami (Ohio) University in an NCAA Tournament Opening Round on Wednesday with a start time of 2 p.m., it was announced Sunday night. The winner advances to face No. 2 Duke (16-3) on Saturday in Durham, N.C.
The Cardinal (13-7) clinched a berth by beating the University of New Hampshire, 4-1 on Sunday in the America East Finals in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was the second consecutive conference championship for Stanford, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year.
This marks the program's 16th appearance since 1985 and seventh in the last eight years for head coach Tara Danielson. In 2014, the Cardinal reached the second round before losing to Connecticut, 3-1.
Miami (11-8) won its third MAC Tournament Championship on Saturday by edging Kent State, 2-1 in overtime.
