STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Ben Hallock was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Week on Monday.
Hallock earned the weekly honor after he posted his 11th hat trick of the season to lead No. 4 Stanford to a 7-5 win over No. 3 UCLA in a crucial MPSF match this past Saturday.
The freshman opened the scoring with a goal two minutes into the contest and scored the go-ahead goal from two meters with four seconds left in the first half. Despite drawing constant attention from his two-meter spot, the freshman scored his third goal late in the third quarter to give Stanford a two-goal cushion. It proved big with UCLA scoring two of the next three goals.
Hallock continued his streak of scoring in all 19 matches this season, while leading the Cardinal to its 10th consecutive win. He leads Stanford with 52 goals on the year and ranks second in the MPSF in scoring with an average of 2.74 goals-per-game.
Hallock also earned MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors on Oct. 9 and Sept. 4 of this season.
The victory over UCLA sets up a Thursday showdown with No. 1 California in the Big Splash at Avery Aquatic Center. If Stanford wins, it will claim a share of the MPSF regular-season title with the Bears.
