STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's Dunlevie Family Director of Women's Water Polo John Tanner announced the signings of six decorated prep stars to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. Chloe Harbilas (Corona del Mar/Newport Beach, Calif.), Lauren Indart (Monte Vista/Danville, Calif.), Ryann Neushul (Dos Pueblos/Goleta, Calif.), Madison Stamen (King/Riverside, Calif.), Thea Walsh (Laguna Beach/Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Sophia Zamoyski (Del Notre/San Diego, Calif.) will enroll at Stanford for the 2018-19 academic year and join the Cardinal for the 2019 season.
"This class brings a wonderful mindset that combines diligence, aspiration and commitment," Tanner said. "They have been relentless in pursuing improvement, in seeking globally relevant greatness and in contributing to their teams and communities. We are extremely excited about them as role models for future generations in our sport and as contributors to this program, the athletic department and the entire Stanford University community."
Harbilas, a first-team All-CIF attacker from Corona del Mar, scored 83 goals to go along with 22 assists and 28 steals during her junior season in leading the Sea Queens to a 20-9 record. She was the Pacific Coast League's MVP and is a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team selection. Academically, Harbilas has earned academic All-America (outstanding) distinction from USA Water Polo two years in a row.
A member of the Women's Junior National Team, Harbilas and the United States took fifth place at the FINA Junior World Championship in Volos, Greece in September. She was joined on that team by current Stanford freshman Sarah Klass along with fellow signee Ryann Neushul.
Indart is another two-time academic All-American (outstanding) and a two-time All-North Coast Section first teamer (2015, 2016). She also landed on the All-East Bay Athletic League in her sophomore and junior seasons for Monte Vista, which is currently 20-4 overall and 8-0 in league play heading into tonight's semifinal matchup with Acalanes in the NCS Division I Girls' Water Polo Championships.
Also member of the USA Women's Cadet and Youth National Teams the past two years, Indart's club team, Diablo Alliance 16U, finished second at Junior Olympics last summer and she was selected a Junior Olympics first team All-American.
Neushul will be the third of her family to attend Stanford since 2012, following older sisters Kiley and Jamie. A top-five scorer at the aforementioned 2017 FINA Junior World Championship, Neushul led the United States with 15 goals in seven games and tied for the team lead with seven steals. She scored her 15 on 31 attempts and her 48.4 shooting percentage was third among the 21 double-digit scorers at the tournament.
Neushul, who is a four-time National Honor Society student, also won silver with the United States at the 2016 FINA Intercontinental Tournament in Lewisville, Texas and was a 2015 Junior Olympics 16U MVP.
Stamen has been a three-time All-CIF first teamer for King High School (2015, 2016, 2017) and a two-time Big VIII League Offensive MVP (2015, 2017). She finished second in the Inland area with 133 goals as a junior, the third consecutive season she topped the 100-goal mark. She also had 28 assists, 32 steals and 39 drawn ejections.
As a sophomore Stamen finished fourth in the Inland area with 127 goals and also led the Wolves with 69 steals, 62 assists and 49 drawn ejections. She scored 18 times in the playoffs, helping King win the Division 3 title.
A member of the 2017 U.S. Women's Water Polo Junior National Team, in 2016 Stamen was selected by Riverside's City Council and mayor as one of the city's "Most Remarkable Teens."
As a junior, Walsh helped Laguna Beach finish 31-0 and win its third Division 1 title in four years. She was first team All-Orange Coast League, first team All-CIF and a first team Daily Pilot Dream Team selection in making a school-record 298 saves.
A member of the U.S. Water Polo National Team system since 2014, in May she competed with the U.S. Senior Women's National Team at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament in Davis, Calif. and also was a part of the United States' 2016 FINA Youth World Championship team that finished fifth in Auckland, New Zealand along with Ryann Neushul, Sarah Klass and current freshman Aria Fischer.
In the classroom, Walsh also earned academic All-America (outstanding) distinction in 2016 and 2017.
Zamoyski scored a staggering 160 goals for Del Notre last season, the third most in CIF history. She was named the player of the year at both the CIF Division II and Palomar League levels in leading the Lady Nighthawks to their first CIF championship, scoring five of her team's 12 goals in the final.
Zamoyski was a finalist for Del Norte High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016-17.
