Two Named All-District

STANFORD, Calif. – Alison Jahansouz and Michelle Xiao were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team, as announced Wednesday by the organization.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December. Last season, Maddie Bauer became Stanford's 11th academic All-American, garnering third-team honors as the only Pac-12 player to make the All-America teams.

Jahansouz, a redshirt junior on track to graduate with a degree in computer science, is 9-1-0 this season with eight shutouts. Her 0.40 goals-against average ranks seventh in the nation, and she has allowed just four goals all season while saving two of three possible penalty kicks.

Off the pitch, Jahansouz carries a 3.56 grade-point average and heavily involves herself in research and asset management. She has worked as a research assistant at the Stanford Blood Center, studying immunology for breast cancer treatment. She also has worked at Ground Rounds in San Francisco as a data analyst as well as Asset Management Ventures in Palo Alto.

Xiao was recently named to the All-Pac-12 second team with 19 points on the season, including 14 in Pac-12 play. She tanks third on the team with eight goals, including six in conference play, which ranks tied for third.

Xiao was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team in 2016, and is involved with clinical research on Stanford's campus. As a part of the Stanford Bio-X USRP program, she worked in the Stanford Soft Tissue Biomechanics Lab (STBL) analyzing MRI of knee cartilage to detect early osteoarthritic changes.

During the summer of 2016, Xiao spent time in the medicinal chemistry research lab at the University of Nebraska Medical Center working on synthesizing small molecules that could treat Alzheimer's Disease. She also published a paper from this research in the Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters Journal titled "Design and Synthesis of New Piperidone Grafted Acetylcholinesterase".

The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes listed here for men and women, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
