STANFORD, Calif. – Former Stanford standout and United States national team captain Julie Foudy was honored with the Silver Anniversary Award, as announced Thursday by the NCAA.

Foudy, a four-year starter and three-time All-American at Stanford from 1989-92, is one of six distinguished former student-athletes to receive the honor. The annual award recognizes noteworthy individuals on the 25th anniversary of the end of their intercollegiate athletics eligibility. Foudy joins Jason Elam, Jim Hansen, Nnenna Lynch, David Morrow and Lance Pilch as the 2018 honorees.

Foudy was named Soccer America Player of the Year in 1991, graduating in 1994 with a degree in biological science two years following the end of her eligibility. She was voted Pac-12 Player of the Century for women's soccer, finishing her career with school records in points (137), goals (52) and assists (33).

From 1988-2004, Foudy made 272 appearances with the United States national team, with which she won two FIFA World Cups and two Olympic gold medals. Named ESPN's Sportswoman of the Year in 1999, Foudy was named one of the NCAA's 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes in recognition of her significant impact and major contributions to society.

Since her retirement from professional soccer, Foudy has worked as a commentator, analyst, feature reporter and host for ESPN and ABC's coverage of several World Cups. She founded the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy, which focuses on developing young women using sports as a vehicle, and founded the Julie Foudy Leadership Foundation, which works to empower young women from all socioeconomic backgrounds to become leaders who positively impact their communities.

In addition to her involvement in numerous other foundations and organizations, Foudy serves as an ambassador for Beyond Sport, a global organization that promotes, develops and funds the use of sport to create social change across the world.

Last week, Foudy served as an analyst for ESPNU's coverage of the NCAA College Cup. Stanford defeated South Carolina, 2-0, and UCLA, 3-2, to claim its second national championship at the Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
