Sweet Victory

Cardinal sweeps Colorado State, moves on to Sweet 16

STANFORD, Calif. – Third-seeded Stanford women's volleyball swept No. 23 Colorado State, 25-14, 25-15, 25-9, on Saturday night at Maples Pavilion to advance to the NCAA Regional semifinals.

Stanford, which has now won 17 straight on The Farm, will host the NCAA Regionals at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal (28-3) will take on Wisconsin (22-9) on Friday. Last season, Stanford rallied from two sets down to defeat the Badgers in the Regional final in Madison—en route to the 2016 national title.

"I think we were really focused the entire time," sophomore libero Morgan Hentz said of Stanford's second straight sweep to start NCAA play. "Sometimes we can lose it, but I didn't see any signs of that, and that's really important heading through the NCAA Tournament because anyone can win on any given day. We are just taking it one game, one point at a time because if you look forward, you lose sight of things."

Stanford never trailed against Colorado State (28-4). The Cardinal hit at a .486 clip and held the Rams to .085 thanks in large part to its 16.0 blocks.

Sophomore Kathryn Plummer hit .600 and led the Cardinal with 14 kills and added five digs and six blocks. Tami Alade had a team-high eight blocks, Hentz led the team with 11 digs, and Jenna Gray contributed 35 of the Cardinal's 39 assists.
