LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Reid Travis posted his third double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford, but the Cardinal came up short in a 76-68 setback to Long Beach State Sunday afternoon at Walter Pyramid.
Travis topped the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season, scoring 18 of his game-high 26 in the second half. It's his third double-digit rebound game of the year.
The Cardinal (4-6) were up by as many as five in the middle of the second half, before the 49ers (4-6) made a run to take the lead with eight minutes remaining.
Travis responded with eight consecutive Stanford points to pull the Cardinal within one point (62-61) with 3:21 to play.
Long Beach State put together an 8-0 run with less than three minutes to play and scored 14 of the final 21 points to hold off the Cardinal and seal the victory.
Jordan Griffin, who led Long Beach State with 21 points, scored eight consecutive points during the 49ers' late-game run.
Long Beach State took advantage of 17 Stanford turnovers, scoring 17 points off those Cardinal miscues.
Freshman Isaac White came within three points of his career-high with 17 points, matching his career-high with five three-pointers in the contest. Senior Michael Humphrey was the Cardinal's third player in double figures, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds.
Bryan Alberts (15), Gabe Levin (13) and Deishuan Booker (13) joined Griffin as the 48ers' double digit scorers.
Stanford will take a break for final exams, returning to action on Friday, Dec. 15 against Denver at 7 p.m. PT at Maples Pavilion.
