Captains Named

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford track and field teams have announced their captains for the 2018 season.

In a vote of the combined men's and women's teams, and the coaching staff, the individuals who have earned the captainship for the men's team are intermediate hurdler Daniel Brady, middle-distance runner Tai Dinger, distance runner Sean McGorty, thrower Tristen Newman and decathlete Harrison Williams.

The women's captains are discus thrower Valarie Allman, 1,500-meter runner Elise Cranny, quartermiler Missy Mongiovi, and high jumper Rachel Reichenbach.

"The process of selecting captains created the great opportunity to continue to reinforce the core values our program is built upon," said Chris Miltenberg, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field. "These individuals have proven to embody those ideals and are constantly challenging themselves and their teammates to grow and improve every single day.

"I have no doubt these captains will be a key part of our continued growth and evolution as a total program toward being one of the very best team in the country across all three seasons."

Stanford begins its indoor season on Jan. 13 at the UW Indoor Preview in Seattle. The NCAA Indoor Championships are March 9-10 in College Station, Texas.

During the outdoor season, Stanford will play host to four meets: the Stanford Invitational (March 30-31), Cardinal Classic (April 20-21), Payton Jordan Invitational (tentatively, May 3), and Pac-12 Championships (combined events, May 5-6; main meet, May 12-13). This marks the first time Stanford has played host to the conference meet since 2007 and the 13th time overall.

Stanford returns 22 All-Americans – 13 women and nine men. Top performers include Grant Fisher, the defending NCAA outdoor 5,000 champion, and Allman, who last summer became the first current Stanford athlete to represent the U.S. at an Olympics or world championships in 12 years.
