STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's rowing opens its spring championship season this weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.
The two-day regatta is annually regarded as one of the top events nationwide in the spring season. Racing begins shortly after 7 a.m. PT on Saturday and will run through late afternoon on Sunday.
Action for Stanford will begin at 8:42 a.m. PT on Saturday as the varsity eight faces Yale and the University of Victoria in Heat B of the Copley Cup. The Grand Final of the Copley Cup will take place at 10:24 a.m. PT on Sunday.
The Cardinal second varsity eight will race UC San Diego, University of San Diego, Colorado and Michigan in Heat C of the Sharp Cabrillo Cup on Saturday at 9:36 a.m. PT. The top two finishers in the heat will advance to Sunday's Grand Final at 9:44 a.m. PT.
Stanford's novice eight will race UC Davis, UC San Diego, Colorado and Orange Coast in Heat C of the Derek Guelker Cup on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT. The top two finishes in the heat will advance to Sunday's Grand Final at 9:36 a.m. PT.

In 2016, Stanford also raced three entries at the San Diego Crew Classic, placing fourth in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight.
Following the San Diego Crew Classic, the Cardinal will host the Stanford Invitational and welcome Washington and Oregon State to Redwood Shores on April 14 and 15 in its first home regatta this season. Stanford will also host California on April 29.
