STANFORD, Calif. – The defending Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) champion Stanford lightweight rowing program will compete in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships this weekend at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California.

Stanford, the No. 1 seed, will be one of 31 schools competing in this year's championship regatta hosted by Sacramento State.

The lightweight varsity eight will compete in the women's varsity openweight eight against San Diego State, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and Seattle at 8:50 a.m. The Grand Final will be held Sunday at 9 a.m.
 
The lightweight second varsity eight will race in Saturday's second varsity openweight eight against San Diego State, Sacramento State, Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara at 9:20 a.m. The Grand Final will be held Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
 
The Cardinal will also field a lightweight four boat in the novice four race against UC Santa Barbara, Arizona State, Humboldt State and Seattle at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday. The top two in the race will advance to Sunday's Grand Final at 12:10 p.m.  
 
Stanford swept all three of its races (varsity open eight, second varsity open eight and novice eight) in last season's WIRA's, winning the varsity eight race by open water with a time of 6:45.8.
 
The Cardinal captured three Grand Finals in its most recent regatta, winning the lightweight eight, the openweight four and the lightweight four titles at the Knecht Cup in West Windsor, New Jersey, April 8-9.  
 
Stanford will return to Gold River, California for the IRA National Championships June 2-4.
