STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women's rowing program earned its ninth consecutive bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships when selections were announced Tuesday.
The Cardinal was one of 22 teams overall and one of 11 at-large bids to make up the NCAA Championship field. The NCAA Division I Rowing Championships will take place Friday through Sunday, May 26-28, at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey. Heat racing will begin Friday, with semifinals set for Saturday and the Grand Final in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The Ivy League and the Metro Atlantic Conference will each serve as hosts of the championship regatta.
Stanford is coming off a third-place team finish in the Pac-12 Championships this past weekend at Lake Natoma in Gold River. The varsity eight and second varsity eight both finished third, while the varsity four placed fourth in the Grand Final of the conference regatta.
This is the 12th all-time appearance and ninth straight year Stanford has earned a bid to the NCAA Championships.
Stanford enters the NCAA Championships ranked eighth in the most recent USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Coaches Poll.
The varsity eight will be the No. 6 seed and race in the third heat on Friday at 6:24 a.m. PT The second varsity eight is the No. 12 seed and will race in the fourth heat on Friday at 7:24 a.m. PT. The varsity four is the No. 11 seed and will race in the third heat at 8 a.m. PT on Friday.
The Cardinal placed fourth as a team in the 2016 NCAA Championships, which were held at Lake Natoma in Gold River. The varsity eight finished third, the second varsity eight placed ninth, and the varsity four finished fourth in last season's NCAA Championships.
Stanford captured the NCAA team title in 2009.
