STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's basketball freshman forward Oscar da Silva will represent Germany in the FIBA U19 World Cup July 1-9 in Cairo, Egypt.
 
Germany will open completion on July 1 against Lithuania at 8:45 a.m. PT. They will also face Puerto Rico on July 2 at 8:45 a.m. PT and host Egypt on July 4 at 11:30 a.m. PT in group play. The games will be played at Cairo Stadium Indoor Hall.

Following group play, the teams will advance to a 16-team tournament running July 5-9.
 
A native of Munich, da Silva is regarded as one of the top prospects in Germany. He averaged 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for Germany in the 2016 FIBA U18 European Championship in Samsun, Turkey. Germany finished fourth in the championship with a 4-2 record.
 
da Silva is a standout for Ludwig Gymnasium and is also a member of the NBBL's MTSV Schwabing, where he averaged 21.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks last season. da Silva was selected for the NBBL All-Star Game last season. 
 
In March, da Silva scored 39 points and collected 17 rebounds in the German U19 NBBL.  
 
He played for Germany's U18 National Team in the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Tournament in April of 2016, averaging 7.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
 
da Silva, who speaks six languages fluently, is part of a four-member freshman class that also includes Daejon Davis, Kezie Okpala and Isaac White. The forward will join his Cardinal teammates on campus later in July.
