Opening Weekend at Taube

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 13 Stanford men's tennis opens the spring dual season this week, as the Cardinal hosts San Francisco on Friday at 3 p.m. and George Washington on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

Senior Tom Fawcett, coming off a singles crown in the Sherwood Cup in Thousand Oaks, California, last weekend, headlines the Cardinal lineup. He defeated teammate Sameer Kumar in Monday's championship match.

Fawcett is one of two Cardinal seniors in the 2018 lineup, along with David Wilczynski. Wilczynski captured the UCSB Classic singles title this past October.

Stanford completed the 2017 dual slate 18-9 overall and 4-3 in the Pac-12. The Cardinal advanced to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 in Athens, Georgia, before falling to No. 1 Wake Forest last spring. Five members of Stanford's 2017 NCAA Tournament lineup are back this season.

San Francisco, a member of the West Coast Conference, returns seven players from last season. The Dons were picked sixth in the WCC preseason coaches poll.

George Washington, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, opened the dual season on Thursday, dropping a 7-0 decision to No. 1 UCLA in Los Angeles. The Colonials will face San Francisco at 10 a.m. on Saturday, before its matchup with the Cardinal at 3 p.m.

This weekend's matches are the first two of 12 home dual matches this spring for Stanford. Following this weekend's dual matches, the Cardinal will head across the Bay to compete in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Berkeley, California. Stanford will meet Oregon (RV) Sunday, Jan. 28 and will face either No. 19 California or No. 22 Tulane Monday, Jan. 29.
