LOS ANGELES – Despite a career-high 23 points from freshman Daejon Davis, Stanford could not overcome a hot-shooting UCLA team in an 89-73 defeat to the Bruins Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA shot 52.8 percent from the floor for the game, including 52.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Bruins connected on seven of 11 three pointers in the first half.
The Cardinal (11-11, 5-4 Pac-12) fell behind early, before using a 9-0 run to take a 15-14 lead midway through the first half. The Bruins (15-7, 6-4 Pac-12) responded with a 14-0 run to surge ahead, 38-27. They took a 49-36 advantage into the half.
An early UCLA burst in the second half stretched the Bruins' lead to as many as 22, before the Cardinal cut into the advantage.
Stanford trimmed UCLA's lead to 13 with three minutes to go, but could not get any closer in the defeat in Westwood. UCLA has won 12 consecutive home games against Stanford.

Davis, who posted 22 points in the double-overtime victory against UCLA at home earlier this month, eclipsed his total with a career-best 23 points on Saturday night against the Bruins. He also collected his second career double-double, adding a career-high 10 assists.
The freshman was one of four members of the Cardinal in double figures in the contest. Seniors Dorian Pickens and Michael Humphrey finished with 16 and 12, respectively, and junior Reid Travis posted 11 points and seven rebounds.
Pickens finished with four three pointers against UCLA to move past Julius Barnes (1999-03) for sole possession of 13th on Stanford's career three pointers list with 157 in his 103-game career.
UCLA also had four in double figures, led by Aaron Holiday's 21 points.
Stanford returns to action this coming Thursday against Oregon State at Maples Pavilion. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. PT.
