SAN JOSE - No. 1 Stanford cruised past San Jose State 6-1 in its season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Opening the season on the road for the first time since 2001, Stanford (1-0) was also squaring off against San Jose State for the first time in 30 years.
The Cardinal quickly secured the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.
After Janice Shin delivered a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot, Caroline Lampl put Stanford in front 3-0 following a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 3 position.
The clincher came from Emma Higuchi on court four, where she won 6-2, 6-1.
The Spartans (1-1) claimed their only point with a win at the No. 6 spot.
Stanford next visits No. 2 Vanderbilt on Saturday, Feb. 3, in a 10 a.m. PT contest.
