Season-Opening Date Shifted

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford announced Monday that the date of its 2018 football season opener against San Diego State has been moved to Friday, Aug. 31.
 
The nonconference game, which will be contested at Stanford Stadium, originally was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1.
 
The start time will be determined on a future date.
 
The two teams met in 2017 at San Diego State, with the Aztecs pulling out a 20-17 victory.
 
The Cardinal is 3-2 all-time against San Diego State. The programs played a four-game series from 1985-88, with Stanford claiming wins in three of those meetings.
 
Stanford finished the 2017 season with a 9-5 record, and six of those wins came at Stanford Stadium.
