STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Katie Ledecky, who won individual four events and led No. 3 Stanford to a pair of dual meet victories last weekend, was named Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.
Among her individual wins, Ledecky pulled off a rare and impressive double on Saturday. She was tops in the 1,000-yard freestyle by more than 30 seconds, and in the next event, she won the 200 free by an equally impressive three seconds. She is the only NCAA swimmer to break 9:30 in the 1,000 free this year, and her time of 9:15.96 marked her fourth time under that threshold this season. Right back in the water, she won the sprint with a time of 1:43.24.
A short while later, the Bethesda, Maryland, native won the 500 free -- she was 16 seconds faster than the rest of the field with her finish of 4:36.61 -- and was the third leg of Stanford's winning 400 free relay. Behind those efforts, Stanford won at No. 13 USC, 223-77.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Ledecky won the 200 backstroke (1:58.37) and the 200 individual medley (1:57.94) in the dual meet victory at UCLA -- she was the only swimmer to break two minutes in those events.
Stanford (7-0, 6-0 Pac-12) wraps up the regular season against Cal (9-0, 6-0 Pac-12) at noon on Feb. 10. They are the only unbeaten teams remaining in the Pac-12. Stanford is 15-0 all-time in duals with Ledecky.
The two Pac-12 rivals will team up to take donations at the door for the Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Cash or checks (made out to LPCH) of any amount will be accepted. It also marks Senior Day at Avery Aquatic Center for the Cardinal, and admission is free.
