Preseason All-America Teams Opens in a new window


STANFORD, Calif.Juniors Nico Hoerner and Tristan Beck were named preseason All-America by Perfect Game, as announced Tuesday.

Hoerner earned a place on the second team after being named preseason third-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. A native of Oakland, California, he was a member of the All-Pac-12 and All-Pac-12 defensive team after starting all 58 games at shortstop in 2017. An ABCA/Rawlings All-Region second teamer, Hoerner posted a .307 batting average with 18 doubles, 43 runs and 33 RBI during his sophomore season.

He led the team with 77 hits, finishing fifth in the Pac-12, while his .388 batting average in Pac-12 play ranked second in the conference. Hoerner also competed for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox this past summer, posting a .301 batting average in 44 games with 30 RBI and 26 runs.

Beck, a right-handed pitcher from Corona, California, aims to make his return to the bump after missing 2017 with an injury. Beck was Stanford's starting ace as a freshman, posting a 6-5 mark with a 2.48 earned-run average hitters hitting just .205.

Beck was the third freshman to start opening day since 1988 (Mike Mussina, Cal Quantrill), earning places on the Perfect Game, Baseball America and Louisville Slugger freshman All-America teams, as well as the All-Pac-12 first team.

Stanford opens its 2018 campaign on Feb. 16 when it hosts Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series. Season tickets are on sale at GoStanford.com.
