STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior guard Brittany McPhee remains one of 30 players under consideration for the 2018 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club administers the Naismith Awards, which are some of the most prestigious national honors in all of college basketball. Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, inventor of the game of basketball, the Naismith Trophy recognizes the top Men's and Women's College Basketball Players of the Year. The 10 semifinalists will be announced Feb. 26.
McPhee has improved her numbers across the board each year on The Farm and is averaging career-highs in points (17.9), rebounds (5.3), assists (2.4) and steals (1.2) this season. She's scored 20+ seven times and is averaging 23.5 points on 58.5 percent shooting and 7.0 rebounds in the month of February. McPhee, who missed nine nonconference games with a right foot injury, is one of 12 Power 5 conference guards in the country averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.
McPhee has had two of her three career double-doubles in the past four games and was the consensus national player of the week last Monday after she scored 31 of her career-high 33 points in the second half at No. 6 Oregon to lead Stanford to the 13-point victory (78-65).
McPhee became Stanford's 39th 1,000-point scorer against No. 25 Arizona State on Jan. 26 and has put together some of her best performances against ranked opponents. Nine of her 17 outings this season have been against the AP Top 25 and the senior has averaged 19.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in those games.
The Cardinal has won six straight and moved up to No. 14 in both the AP poll and the NCAA RPI. Stanford hosts California for its final home game of the regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m.
