TEMPE, Ariz. – A dominant showcase on both sides of the ball and a 2-for-3 day from Teaghan Cowles paved the way as the Cardinal closed out its opening week with a 9-1 (5) win over Boise State Sunday in the Kajikawa Classic.
The Cardinal (2-4) wasted no time against the Broncos (3-3) as it pushed three runs across the board in the first inning powered by Teaghan Cowles coming home off a steal play before Whitney Burks crushed a ball to center field to plate two more.
Boise State was able to scrap back a run in the second, which would be all the Cardinal would allow on the day as it fired back in the third inning with a lead-off single from Cowles being brought home by Montana Dixon's second home run of the season to make it 5-1.

Maddy Dwyer collected her second win of the season, allowing only one run and striking out two while Stanford's offense posted four more runs in the fourth inning with Carmina Nicolas getting the Cardinal started hitting a lead-off single before adding a stolen base.
Showing patience at the plate, Molly Fowkes and Alyssa Horeczko were able to draw walks while RBIs by Cowles and Lauren Wegner helped add four more to Stanford's tally to close out the run-rule win.
Up next the Cardinal will travel to the Mary Nutter Classic next weekend where it will play five games in three days in Palm Springs, Calif.
