STANFORD, Calif. – Brandon Wu was named to the prestigious Ben Hogan Award watch list, it was announced Wednesday. The Cardinal junior is one of 27 collegiate players to be selected.
The Ben Hogan Award began in 1990 and is presented to a player who excels in academics and collegiate golf. Stanford has produced two winners, with Patrick Rodgers earning the award in 2014 and Maverick McNealy claiming the honor in 2017.
Ten semifinalists will be announced on April 11, with the three finalists getting the call on May 2. The winner will be announced at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas on May 21.
Wu is coming off an impressive fall campaign that saw him shoot 12-under and finish second at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invite, place finish at the St. Mary's Invitational, tie for sixth at the Fighting Illini Invitational, and tie for 12th at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
He averaged 69.32 and was ranked No. 4 in the country by Golfstat.
Wu earned All-Pac-12 second team honors in 2017 and was Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. He averaged 72.03.
The No. 10 Cardinal begins the spring season next Monday through Wednesday in The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, California.
