Bracing For Bears

STANFORD, Calif. – After three straight road trips, the No. 25 Stanford women's gymnastics team plays host to No. 23 Cal on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
  
The schools competed against each other in early January at the season-opening NorCal Classic at Maples, a meet that included San Jose State, Sacramento State and UC Davis. The Bears won with a score of 195.475, with the Cardinal claiming second at 194.925.
 
Stanford senior Elizabeth Price recorded a perfect 10 on the uneven bars.
 
The Cardinal is coming off a narrow 195.725-195.025 defeat at Arizona last Sunday. Freshman Kyla Bryant was a standout, winning her first all-around title, and was named Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday.
 
Cal challenged No. 4 UCLA last Saturday in Berkeley before falling 197.750-197.225. It was a season-best score for the Bears, who equaled their program record by posting 49.350 on the balance beam and tallied 49.400 on vault, the latter the second-highest total in school history.

Redshirt freshman Toni-Ann Williams captured the all-around and tied for first in floor exercise. Williams (Jamaica) and Price (USA) both competed for their respective national teams.
 
The meet will feature several exciting freshman including Bryant and Cal's Kyana George in the all-around. Bryant is one of six Cardinal rookies, with Rachael Flam earning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week after a strong showing in the quad meet at UC Davis.

TV: The meet will be televised by Pac-12 Networks. Stanford graduate Brian Webber '91 will handle play-by-play duties and Carly Patterson Caldwell will provide commentary. She won the all-around at the 2004 Olympics and is a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
