Nakada's New Role

STANFORD, Calif. – Hideki Nakada has been named associate head coach of Stanford's national championship-winning women's soccer program, as announced Friday by Knowles Family Director of Women's Soccer Paul Ratcliffe.

"I am very excited and pleased to promote Hideki to the role of associate head coach," said Ratcliffe, who coached his 15th season at Stanford in the Fall. "Hideki has been instrumental in guiding our team to three straight Pac-12 championships, as well as our second national championship this past season. He is an excellent recruiter and his involvement in all aspects of the program have taken it to another level since his arrival."

Nakada was named assistant coach in 2014, with the Cardinal going 81-7-6 in all competitions since his first season. He assists Ratcliffe in all aspects of the program, including coaching, recruiting, game planning, scouting and video, while also serving as the goalkeepers coach.

From 2014-16, goalkeeper Jane Campbell was named All-Pacific Region and All-Pac-12, earning Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2015. Campbell left Stanford with a share of the all-time lead in shutouts (35), including 14 in 2014, which tied for second all-time.

In 2017, Stanford tied the school record with 19 shutouts and finished fourth in the nation with a 0.320 goals-against average and a 0.760 shutout percentage. Alison Jahansouz was named to the College Cup's All-Tournament team after going 15-1-0 with 11 shutouts, 31 saves and a 0.44 GAA. Her 11 shutouts rank tied for eighth in program history, while her seven total goals conceded ranks fifth.

It is the second staffing change of the offseason for the Cardinal. Two weeks ago, Ratcliffe and men's head coach Jeremy Gunn's positions were endowed with a generous gift from the Knowles Family.
