Milestone Split

STANFORD, Calif. – Head Coach Jessica Allister earned her 300th career victory on Sunday as Stanford softball split a doubleheader with a 4-2 loss to Cal Poly and 2-1 walk-off win over Santa Clara at Smith Family Stadium.

A former Stanford standout, Allister won 290 games in seven seasons at Minnesota and has started 10-7 in her first year at the helm of the Cardinal.

Sophomore Alyssa Horeczko was 4-for-6 with two runs and a RBI in the doubleheader. She also had the sacrifice bunt that set up the two-out walk-off single by Montana Dixon.

Freshman Maddy Dwyer threw 10.1 innings on Sunday, including 6.1 scoreless innings in relief in the win over the Broncos.
Game 1Cal Poly (7-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first frame. A two-out single and a throwing error scored both runs.

Stanford responded right away. Horeczko reached on an infield single and was worked around the bases on a bunt, wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Dixon.

However, the Mustangs added to their lead with a two-strike, two-out, two-run home run in the top of the third.

Stanford loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth. Horeczko led off with a single, Teaghan Cowles doubled and Dixon walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Sophomore Kristina Inouye's RBI ground out cut the deficit to 4-2, but a pop up and ground out ended Stanford's last threat of the game.

Horeczko was 3-for-3 and scored both of Stanford's runs. Cowles was 1-for-2 with the two-bagger. Kiana Pancino allowed just one hit and struck out three in three innings of scoreless relief.
Game 2A bases loaded walk gave Santa Clara an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Freshman Maddy Dwyer entered in relief with two outs and escaped the jam.

Dwyer then went on to retire the next 10 Broncos. In 6.1 shut out innings, she struck out six and held the Broncos to just two hits to earn her sixth win of the year.

Stanford, which improved to 3-1 at home this season, evened the score in the fifth. Lauren Wegner, who finished 1-for-1 with a pair of walks, earned the free pass to start the inning. She reached third after a bunt and wild pitch, and came home when Horeczko singled through the left side.

Molly Fowkes walked to start the home half of the seventh, and Carmina Nicolas entered as a pinch runner. Horeczko bunted Nicolas to second. After a ground out, Dixon worked the count full, fouled off two pitches, and then laced one over third base and into left field. Nicolas rounded third and beat the throw home to start the celebration.

Up NextStanford heads to Fullerton for the Judi Garman Classic, Thursday-Saturday. The Cardinal are slated to begin the invitational against Charlotte on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. PT, followed by matchups against Iowa and Cal State Fullerton on Friday and Loyola Marymount and Michigan State on Saturday.
