Class of 2022

STANFORD, Calif. – Defending national champion Stanford improved its roster this week with six future Cardinal signing National Letters of Intent to join the program in the fall of 2018.

"I am thrilled to welcome another talented and exciting class to Stanford for 2018. This group has great potential and I look forward to watching them compete for playing time and further improving our program."  

Stanford's Class of 2022 includes Bianca Caetano-Ferrara, Sierra Enge, Naomi Girma, Abby Greubel, Katie Meyer and Sophia Smith. The group joins Stanford with a wealth of national and international experience, and will improve a squad that finished the season on a 22-game winning streak to claim its second national championship.

Bianca Caetano-Ferrara • Midfield • San Diego, Calif. • Cathedral Catholic

  • Has represented both the United States and Brazil at the youth levels.
  • Played for San Diego Surf (2014-18), and was teammates with current Stanford freshman Catarina Macario – played one-two age groups up since 2014. Played for Cathedral Catholic high school, winning the Western League in each of her first three seasons (2015-17).
  • Daughter of Joe and Eliane Ferrara, and has one older sister, Giulia.
  • Anticipates majoring in human biology with a contemplated profession as a physician. a

Sierra Enge • Defender/Midfielder • Cardiff, Calif. • Pacific Ridge School

  • Has attended more than 20 youth national team camps, has represented the United States at the U-14, U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels and owns seven caps for United States youth teams.
  • Competed for LA Galaxy San Diego (2015) and SoCal Blues (2016-present), and also played Lacrosse in high school.
  • Father, Brian, played college soccer at Harvard; mother, Ceci, played lacrosse at Harvard; brother, Derek, plays soccer at Tufts.
  • Anticipates majoring in economics with a possible career in business or entrepreneurship.

Naomi Girma • Defender/Midfielder • San Jose, Calif. • Pioneer

  • Has represented the United States at the U-17, U-19 and U-20 levels, most recently at the U-20 CONCACAF Championship.
  • Competed for CV Crossfire (2014-16) and De Anza Force/CA Thorns Academy (2016-18).
  • Three-year captain at Pioneer High School in nearby San Jose, where she also ran track.
  • Parents, Girma Aweke and Seble Demissie, immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia – brother, Nathaniel, is a bioengineering major at Santa Clara.

Abby Greubel • Forward • Santa Ana, Calif. • Foothill

  • Has represented the United States at the U-14 and U-16 levels.
  • Competed for Slammers F.C. (2009-18), reaching the national semifinals in 2016.
  • Played for Foothill high school, winning league MVP and Foothill's Scholar-Athlete Award in each of her first three seasons (2015-17) – set a record with 18 goals and 24 assists in 2015.
  • Daughter of Paul and Christine Greubel, and is the youngest of three sisters – sister, Molly, played basketball at UC Davis; grandfather, Ben Dolson, played baseball and basketball at Auburn, participating in the 1956 Summer Olympics.

Katie Meyer • Goalkeeper • Newbury Park, Calif. • Century Academy

  • Has represented the United States at the U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels.
  • Played for Eagles Soccer Club (2014-16) and Real SoCal (2016-18).
  • Three-time recipient of the Principle's Scholar-Athlete Award (2015-17) at Newbury Park high school, where she was a kicker for the varsity football team for two seasons.
  • Daughter of Steven and Gina Meyer, and is the middle child of three sisters.

Sophia Smith • Forward • Windsor, Colo. • Fossil Ridge

  • Has represented the United States at the U-14, U-15, U-17, U-18, U-20 and U-23 levels, and was named the U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year in 2017.
  • Competed for Real Colorado (2014-18), twice finishing second at the ECNL finals (2014, 2016).
  • Daughter of Kenny and Mollie Smith and the youngest of three sisters; father, Kenny, played basketball at Wyoming; sister, Savannah, plays basketball at Northern Colorado.
  • Comes from a family of basketball players and loves animals – currently has two puppies.
