STANFORD, Calif. – Fourteen members of the Stanford men's water polo team were recognized with the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic award.
Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Athlete merit levels include "Excellent" (3.2 to 3.4), "Superior" 3.41 to 3.7 and "Outstanding" 3.71 to 4.0. A total of 339 student-athletes were named to the ACWPC teams, with 77 achieving outstanding accolades, 145 earning superior recognition and 117 receiving an excellent distinction.
Blake Parrish represented the Cardinal on the "Outstanding" list for the third consecutive year. The computer science major was also recognized for his performance in the pool, earning All-America honors for the second year in a row. He finished the season second on the team in scoring with 38 goals on the year. Parrish enters his senior season on The Farm in 2018 as the Cardinal's active scoring leader with 110 career goals.
The ACWPC's "Superior" list included Justin Roberto (public policy), Bennett Williams (undeclared), Cody Smith (decision making & rationality) and Ben Hallock (undeclared).
Roberto was honored by the ACWPC for the fourth time, while Williams and Smith were recognized for the second consecutive year. Hallock, a freshman, was selected as a First Team All-American after leading the Cardinal in scoring with 56 goals. He scored in every match he played in.
Nine members of the Cardinal earned "excellent" recognition by the ACWPC, including Tyler Abramson (undeclared), Harrison Enright (management, science and engineering), Mitchell Mendoza (computer science), Nelson Perla-Ward (management, science and engineering), Sam Pfeil (management, science and engineering), Sawyer Rhodes (undeclared), Marco Stanchi (computer science), Connor Stapleton (economics), and Dylan Woodhead (undeclared).
Stapleton was also recognized as an All-American, finishing fourth on the Cardinal roster in scoring with 32 goals. He completed his Cardinal career with 99 goals.
It was Pfeil's fourth all-academic selection. Enright, Mendoza and Stanchi where recognized for the third consecutive season. Woodhead was honored for the second straight year. The freshmen, Abramson and Rhodes, were honored in their first season of competition.
Stanford completed the 2017 season 19-5 overall, ranked No. 4 nationally by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
