STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's soccer's Foster Langsdorf has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for his academic and athletic achievements.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners receive a one-time grant of $7,500. To qualify, they must be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate studies within the next three years. In addition to maintaining at least a 3.2 grade-point average, they must perform with distinction in their sport and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.
Awardees are evaluated on their academic and athletic achievement, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership. The program rewards college athletes whose dedication and effort reflect the characteristics needed to succeed in graduate study.
Stanford student-athletes have now earned a nation-leading 162 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, dating back to 1965 when football player Joe Neal became the first.
The only two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year in conference history, Langsdorf and the Cardinal won three consecutive national championships, four conference titles and posted a 65-10-13 overall record (.813) during his time at Stanford.
The management science and engineering major finished his career as the Pac-12's all-time scoring leader with 37 goals, the most for a Stanford player in 34 years. His 14 goals as a senior were ninth in the nation as were is 34 points and his six game-winning goals were second. Fifth nationally with 15 goals as a junior, he became the first Cardinal with back-to-back, double-digit goal campaigns since 1990 and 1991 and was also the country's second-leading goal scorer over his final two seasons with 29.
Langsdorf had 18 career game-winning goals, including 14 the past two seasons, to go along with 12 career assists. He was a first team All-American and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist as a senior and signed as an MLS Homegrown Player with the Portland Timbers in mid-January.
