STANFORD,  Calif. – Stanford won the first set and led in three others, but ultimately was downed by USC, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball action at Burnham Pavilion on Saturday night.

Jaylen Jasper had 20 kills and fellow freshman JP Reilly had 13, but Stanford (4-17, 1-7) was unable to stop the Trojans from rallying. Stanford led by as many as 18-15 in the second set, 19-13 in the third set, and 19-16 in the fourth, only for USC (6-15, 2-6) to storm back each time.

The match featured 36 tie scores and 14 lead changes. Stanford got hot early, with Jasper nailing seven kills in the first set. In the second, Stanford got four blocks to help build an advantage.

Stanford, which has lost three straight to USC, takes a 12-day break for finals and returns to action Thursday, March 29, against visiting Grand Canyon.
