SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Stanford's program-record, 11-match winning streak came to an end with a 5-0 loss to No. 4 USC on Sunday in the team's final dual of the Pac-12 South Invitational.
The Cardinal (11-5, 4-3 Pac-12) began the day with a 3-2 win over Arizona State Sunday morning, extending the streak to a record 11 straight matches.
Stanford sealed the dual victory with three consecutive wins at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 flights over the Sun Devils.
No. 1 pair, Kathryn Plummer and Sunny Villapando, earned the Cardinal's first point with a 21-15, 21-9 straight-set victory. That was followed by a win at the two, where Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith won their match in straight sets, 21-11, 21-8.
Courtney Bowen and Kate Formico sealed the dual with a win at the three, 21-13, 22-20.
The Cardinal then faced two-time defending national champion USC, ultimately falling, 5-0.
The Trojans won the first two matches at the one (21-18, 21-16) and the two (21-18, 21-15), then clinched the match at the three. USC's Terese Cannon and Sammy Slater defeated Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith, 21-18, 21-15, to secure the dual win.
