NORFOLK, Va./LONG BEACH, Calif. - Stanford sailing finished second at the Szambecki Team Race and was runner-up at the PCCSC South Designate over the weekend. 

In Norfolk, the Cardinal was second among 10 teams with an 11-4 record. Only Navy was better at 12-3. Stanford won all nine races in the round robin and then went 1-2 in the first round against the Top 4. In the second round, the Cardinal finished 1-2 once again. Overall against the Top 4, Stanford split with George Washington and St. Mary's, and fell twice to Navy. The Cardinal was led by skippers Jack Parkin, William Marshall, Will La Dow and Romain Screve, and crew Elena VandenBerg, Cassie Obel, Kennedy Placek, Taylor Kirkpatrick and Madeline Bubb. Parkin also served as crew in the final three races.

Stanford was also second at the conference's South Designate with 112 points. Only the host Trojans finished better with a score of 92. The Cardinal were first in the A Division behind skipper Jacob Rosenberg and crew Kathryn Booker. The pair won 10 of 12 races and finished second in another to finish with 38 points. USC was second with 49. In the B Division, skipper Nestor Cano and crew Olivia Gugliemini were fifth with 74 points. 

Next weekend, Stanford hosts the North Designate and will also head to the Dellenbaugh Women's in Providence, Rhode Island.
