STANFORD, Calif. – For those who love track and field, the Stanford Invitational is the perfect destination.

With nearly 24 hours of competition over Friday and Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field, there is plenty to satisfy the most dedicated track fan. The 43rd meet features collegiate and high school competitions, with a share of post-collegians and international competitors.

Though a few Stanford athletes have competed already, the outdoor track and field season truly begins with this meet, essentially launching the 126th season of Stanford track and field.

Stanford notes: During a redshirt season last year, Valarie Allman crushed the school record in the discus at 212-3 (64.69m), though it didn't count because she was competing unattached. She went on to place third at the U.S. Championships to advance to the IAAF World Championships in London. Now a fifth-year senior, Allman, who last threw the discus for Stanford in placing third at the 2016 NCAA Championships, returns to collegiate discus competition in this meet. The school record, held by Carol Cady since 1983, is 207-8 (63.30m)  … Stanford redshirt freshman Ella Donaghu, the seventh-fastest high school 1,500-meter runner in history, makes her collegiate outdoor track debut – in the steeplechase. Donaghu and true freshman Jordan Oakes will run the second section of the 3,000 steeple … Sean McGorty, who owns the Stanford mile record of 3:53.95 indoors, races in the invitational section of the 1,500 in his first individual race, indoors or outdoors, of 2018 … True freshman DJ Principe, a 4:00.73 high school miler at La Salle Academy in Rhode Island, makes his collegiate debut. He will run the third section of the 1,500, at 6:55 p.m. on Friday … In the same section, Alex Ostberg will race for the first time since placing 16th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall … Harrison Williams, a four-time All-America in the multi-events and a six-time Stanford record-breaker, returns to action after a redshirt season. He competes in the 110 hurdles and the invitational high jump.

Meet notes: Reigning NCAA cross country and indoor 3,000 champ Justyn Knight of Syracuse is running the men's invitational 10,000 at 9:45 p.m. on Friday … Missouri's Karissa Schweizer, who three weeks ago swept the NCAA indoor 3,000 and 5,000, will run her first 10,000. That race is Friday at 9:07 p.m. … The same race will feature Gwen Jorgensen, the 2016 Olympic triathlon champion, who is transitioning into the marathon. This is her first 10K in nine years and second race overall since giving birth to a son five months ago.

Parking:
Best options:
Varsity Lot, Lot 2.
Free parking on Friday and Saturday is available in the Varsity Lot (next to Sunken Diamond) and Lot 2 (on the El Camino Real side of Stanford Stadium). Access to both is from Nelson Road/Sam McDonald Road off Galvez Street.

Keep in mind that parking is free everywhere on campus after 4 p.m. Friday and on weekends.

Other parking options:
Galvez Lot: Across Galvez Street from the track stadium, on the northeast corner of Galvez and Campus Drive. It can be best reached on Lasuen Street, which comes off Campus Drive, one block north of the track.
Graduate School of Business parking garage: Across Campus Drive from Maples Pavilion, this is a good option because of its close location to the track.
