Women Take Conference Title

REDWOOD CITY, Calif./NEW LONDON, Conn./ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Stanford sailing won the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC) Women's Championships, finished second at the Thompson Trophy and was sixth at the Navy Spring Coed over the weekend. 

The Cardinal won the PCCSC Women's title for the 14th straight year and 15th time since 2001. Stanford finished with just 117 points for a decisive victory over the seven-team field. UC Santa Barbara was second with 187 points. In the A Division, senior skipper Julia Lambert and crew Christina Sakellaris and Victoria Thompson combined for just 34 points -- better than half the score of the second-place Gauchos (76). Meanwhile, skippers Mimi El-Khazindar (1-6) and Stephanie Houck (7-12) and crew Meg Gerli (1-6) and Sophia Sole (7-12) finished second in the B Division and fourth overall with 83 points. 

In the Northeast, Stanford was the runner-up for the Thompson Trophy on the Thames River. The Cardinal finished with 259 points and edged out Coast Guard Academy (264 points) for second among the 18 teams, while Harvard took the trophy with 190 points. Freshman skipper Romain Screve and crew Kennedy Placek and Madeline Bubb finished second in the A Division with 72 points. They finished in the top two in five of the 12 races (three wins) and were just two points behind Coast Guard Academy for first. Freshman skipper Jack Parkin and senior crew Elena Vandenberg were sixth in the B Division with 94 points and six top-five finishes.

At the coed regatta in Annapolis, the Cardinal finished sixth among 20 teams with 295 points. Old Dominion took the title with 216 points. Skipper Will La Dow and crew Taylor Kirkpatrick were seventh in the A Division with 160 points, while skipper Jacob Rosenberg and crew Kathryn Booker were sixth in the B Division with seven top-five finishes and 135 points. 

Stanford heads to Hawaii for the PCCSC Coed and Team Race championships, April 27-29. The Women's Team Race Invitational is also in Boston, Massachusetts, that weekend.
