STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshmen Jaylen Jasper and Kyler Presho have been voted the MPSF Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the conference announced today.
Jasper, a native of Annapolis, Maryland, averaged 5.11 kills, 0.89 aces and 6.22 points per set as Stanford defeated No. 13 Grand Canyon and No. 14 Concordia last week. The opposite matched his career-highs in kills (27) and aces (4) against the Lopes, hitting .409, and finished one dig shy of a double-double. He followed up with 19 kills, four more aces and seven digs in four sets versus the Eagles.
Presho, a middle blocker out of San Clemente, California, posted 1.44 blocks and 2.83 points per set, while hitting .500 in the two matches. He had a career-high seven blocks – the most by a Cardinal player this season - to go with nine kills and an ace versus Grand Canyon. He added six blocks, two digs and nine kills on .571 hitting against the Eagles.
It marks the first weekly honor for both Jasper and Presho, and the pair joins libero Evan Enriques (Jan. 15) as Cardinal honorees in 2018. Jasper is second in the MPSF with 4.00 kills and 4.42 points per set and Presho ranks fourth with a .420 attack percentage.
Stanford completes the regular season on the road this week, taking on No. 5 UCLA on Thursday and No. 4 Pepperdine on Saturday.
