Late Charge Provides Bump

SEATTLE - Three Stanford student-athletes birdied their 16th hole during the opening round of the Pac-12 Conference Women's Golf Championships at Broadmoor Golf Club on Sunday to give the Cardinal a lift into second place through 18 holes. With their rounds starting on the 10th hole, Andrea Lee, Albane Valenzuela and Ziyi Wang birdied the par-4 seventh after making the turn to help Stanford get to 2-over (290) for the day, three shots behind clubhouse leader UCLA.
 
Wang held sole possession of first after a 7-under 30 on her front nine. She went 3-over on the back, giving her a 4-under 68 for the round, which was matched only by UCLA's Lilia Vu and Washington's Sarah Rhee. Wang posted a seven-hole stretch between Nos. 12-18 that went birdie, eagle, par, birdie, birdie, par, eagle.
 
Stanford is one shot clear of a three-team tie for third.
 
Lee and Valenzuela are tied for 14th at 1-over. Both birdied the par-5 first and par-4 seventh. Mika Liu (+6) and Shannon Aubert (+4) had one birdie apiece during their first circuit.
