STANFORD, Calif. – Senior David Wilczynski has been named the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced.
The senior co-captain was recognized after leading Stanford to wins over No. 36 Oregon and Washington during the final week of the regular season. The Cardinal enters the postseason with a 20-2 overall record, its best regular season in 17 years. Stanford finished second in the Pac-12 standings with a 7-1 record.
Wilczynski posted a pair of victories this past week, capturing a 6-0, 6-2 win over Oregon's Riki Oshimo on Friday and a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Washington's Alexis Alvarez on Saturday. He partnered with Eric Fomba in doubles in both matches. The pair was leading in both of its matches when the contests were abandoned as the Cardinal had already clinched the doubles point.
Wilczynski has won his last five decisions overall, surrendering more than two games in a set just once in each of those decisions.
The Pac-12 honor is the third of Wilczynski's career. He earned two conference weekly honors during his junior season.
Wilczynski's weekly honor is the fourth for the Cardinal this season. Fellow senior Tom Fawcett was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13. Fomba was recognized by the conference on March 13.
Stanford, the No. 2 seed in this week's Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, California, will face Washington in a quarterfinal match on Thursday at 3 p.m. PT.
