Wang Fourth in Debut

Results Opens in a new window

SEATTLE - Sophomore Ziyi Wang claimed fourth place in her debut at the Pac-12 Conference Women's Golf Championships, which concluded Tuesday at the par-72 Broadmoor Golf Club. Wang was tied for first among individuals through 18 holes after opening with a 4-under-par 68, following with respective rounds of 74 and 70.

Wang's career-best finish led the Cardinal (+9) to a third-place showing among the 11-team field, and its second straight bronze finish at the conference tournament. Arizona matched Stanford's total for a share of third. UCLA (-4) won the tournament, 12 shots ahead of second-place USC. UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit defeated teammate Lilia Vu in a one-hole playoff for medalist honors.

Stanford (290-295-288) posted an even-par round Tuesday, the second-best collective score of any team on the day.

"We are so proud and excited for Ziyi Wang," said Anne Walker, Stanford's Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "She sets the bar with her work ethic and she is deserving of this reward. We had great energy as a team this week, and it was apparent in the fight we saw on the course that everyone is playing for one another and working towards a championship."

Wang overcame a 1-over on the front nine to knock down three birdies on the back for her 2-under effort. Andrea Lee, who tied for ninth at even-par, carded the best Cardinal score on the day at 3-under. Her four-birdie round came with only one bogey, a five-spot on the par-4 ninth.

Albane Valenzuela (73-72-75) tied for 15th in her second Pac-12 tournament appearance. Mika Liu (76-75-74) saved her best round for last while tying for 31st at 11-over. Shannon Aubert (76-77-80) tied for 48th.

The Pac-12 revealed its all-conference team at the conclusion of the tournament, which included first-team choices Lee, Valenzuela and Liu.

The Cardinal is playing host to the NCAA San Francisco Regional Championships (May 7-9) at TPC Harding Park. The field will be revealed Wednesday on the Golf Channel.
