One More Medal Round

STILLWATER, Okla. - No. 5 Stanford maintained its solid position on the third day of medal play at the NCAA Championships, finishing seventh to close out the weekend and qualifying as one of 15 teams for Monday's final round.

Stanford produced a team score of 291 for the second straight day, placing the Cardinal in seventh overall heading into Monday's final round, in which eight teams will qualify for the start of match play on Tuesday.

Anchoring the Cardinal was sophomore Albane Valenzuela, who led all competitors with a six-under (66) for the day. The only player to post a sub-70 round on Sunday, Valenzuela jumped 29 spots on the leaderboard to move into a three-way tie for seventh. Valenzuela posted seven birdies and only one bogey in her best round of the tournament.

Alabama leads the field at two-under 862. UCLA is eight strokes off the pace in second at 870, followed by Arizona (880), Northwestern (882) and USC (885) rounding out the top five.

Sophomore Andrea Lee is tied for 13th overall, moving up six spots after she was 1-under (71) on Sunday. Senior Shannon Aubert is tied for 51st following a 3-over 75 while sophomore Ziyi Wang carded a 7-over 79 and freshman Mika Liu finished with a 13-over 85.

Stanford won its first NCAA title in 2015, finished second in 2016 and tied for third in 2017.
