WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Tom Fawcett and freshman Axel Geller are set to open play at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships this week at Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Fawcett will compete in the NCAA singles Championship and will team with Geller in the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Fawcett, ranked No. 9 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll, will open the 64-team NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday at 8 a.m. PT against No. 23 Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State.
The 32-team NCAA Doubles Championship begins Thursday. Fawcett and Geller, ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA poll, will face the ITA's No. 5 ranked team of Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez from Florida. Ingildsen and Perez are the No. 4 overall seed in the doubles tournament. Thursday's match time has not yet been set.

Fawcett will make his fourth appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. The Cardinal senior reached the semifinals of last year's tournament in Athens, Georgia, earning ITA All-America honors. He enters the tournament 20-5 overall with an 11-4 dual mark, playing all his matches at No. 1. Fawcett has 10 wins over nationally-ranked foes this season.
On the doubles side, Fawcett and Geller have been stellar in their first season playing together. Playing No. 2 doubles for the Cardinal, the duo is 16-6. Fawcett and Geller have won four of their last five matches, with their only loss during that stretch coming to the No. 7 doubles team in the ITA rankings from USC.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships continue throughout the week with the second round of the NCAA Singles tournament scheduled for Thursday. Both the singles and doubles tournaments will play round of 16 matches Friday, with the quarterfinals slated for Saturday, semifinals Sunday and both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship matches contested Monday.
