Stanford Makes Match Play

STILLWATER, Okla. – Stanford has advanced to match play at the NCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive year.

Led by sophomore Andrea Lee, the No. 5 Cardinal finished fifth in the 72-hole medal play competition at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. +28 (1,180). Stanford improved each round and put together its best performance on Monday with a 2-over 290.

A bogey-free Lee was the best player on the course. She started off her round with five birdies in her first eight holes and shot a course-record tying 7-under 65 to close tied for second overall (-6; 282), the highest individual finish for a Stanford golfer over the past two decades (records since 1990).

The Cardinal will face No. 4 seed Northwestern (21-over, 1,173) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 5:50 a.m. PT. The two teams finished 1-2 in the stroke play portion of last year's NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

The finals will be played Wednesday.

Stanford won its first NCAA title in 2015, finished second in 2016 and tied for third in 2017 – the Cardinal has played in all but one session since the match play format began in 2015.

Albane Valenzuela carded a 5-over 77 in her final round and finished tied for 21st overall at +4 (292). Shannon Aubert jumped five spots to tie for 38th at 8-over for the tournament. She posted her best round with a 1-under 71 thanks to birdies on Nos. 12, 18, 4 and 6.

Ziyi Wang finished tied for 26th (+27) and Mika Liu was 82nd (+34). Wang shot 10-over 82 on Monday and Liu a 5-over 77.

UCLA placed first at 9-over 1,161 and Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest was the individual medalist with a score of 8-under 280.
