NORFOLK, Va. - Stanford sailing reached the finals of the Sperry Women's National Championships and finished the four-day event in 16th-place on Friday.
In the first of three spring Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) national championships, the Cardinal women qualified for the national finals and placed 16th with a total of 454 points. In the A Division, skippers Julia Lambert (1-16) and Christina Sakellaris (17-18) teamed with crew Victoria Thompson to place 14th with 211 points. Meanwhile, in the B Division, skipper Mimi El-Khazindar and crew Meg Gerli (1-2, 9-16), and skipper Stephanie Houck and crew Madeline Bubb (3-8, 17-18) combined for 223 points and a 15th-place finish.
Stanford reached the finals with a seventh-place finish in the semifinals. The top nine advance and the Cardinal finished with 164 points. Skipper Julia Lambert and crew Victoria Thompson were seventh in the A Division with 95 points, while skippers Mimi El-Khazindar and Stephanie Houck, and crew Meg Gerli, Sophia Sole and Madeline Bubb combined to finish fourth with 69 points in the B Division.
The National Championships continue with the Team Race championship on May 26, lasting for three days and the Coed championship on May 29, lasting for four days. All events are hosted by Old Dominion University at the ODU Sailing Center.
