STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford has been rated as the best overall women's program in the nation as determined by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, and the Cardinal men were ranked No. 3. Combined, there is none better than Stanford.
Taking into account NCAA team finishes in cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field, the Stanford women received the Terry Crawford Program of the Year award. Stanford was the only school to have programs in the top three of both the men's and women's standings.
The distinction comes days after the Cardinal women placed third at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships – only two points from first – in the closest top-three finish in meet history. Stanford was eighth at NCAA Indoors and fourth in NCAA Cross Country.
The Stanford men were eighth at NCAA Outdoors, 21st at NCAA Indoors, and fourth at NCAA Cross Country. In the latter, no school could match Stanford's twin podium (top four) team finishes by the men's and women's teams.
Among the 2017-18 highlights were a 1-2 NCAA finish in the women's javelin with by winner Mackenzie Little and Jenna Gray, and a first and third in the men's 5,000 by Sean McGorty and Grant Fisher.
Stanford crowned five All-Americans in cross country, 13 in indoor track, and 20 in outdoor track. Altogether, 22 different individuals – 12 women and 10 men – earned All-America honors in any of the three seasons and there were 31 first-team All-America honors in both indoor and outdoor track and field.
