Nonconference Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford has unveiled its men's basketball nonconference schedule for the 2018-19 season. Highlighting the 13-game slate are visits to North Carolina, Kansas and the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Cardinal will also host six games in November and December, welcoming Seattle, Wofford, Portland State, Eastern Washington, San Jose State and Long Beach State to Maples Pavilion. The contest against Seattle on Tuesday, November 6 will serve as the home opener.

The nonconference schedule features as many as 10 teams who played in the 2017-18 postseason, including NCAA Final Four participant, Kansas. Stanford's possible matchups in the Battle 4 Atlantis include 2018 NCAA Tournament teams Florida, Oklahoma and Butler.

At least two, and possibly three, of Stanford's 2018-19 nonconference opponents are projected in the top eight of both ESPN's and CBS Sports' early 2018-19 preseason rankings, including No. 2 Kansas and No. 8 North Carolina. Virginia, who Stanford could face in the Battle 4 Atlantis, is No. 7.

Five of the first seven contests will be held more than 2,800 miles away from the Stanford campus with trips to North Carolina and the Bahamas set for November.

Stanford begins a home and home series with UNC Wilmington, with the first game taking place at UNCW's Trask Coliseum Nov. 9. The matchup, the first meeting between the Cardinal and the Seahawks, will feature Stanford head coach Jerod Haase against his college teammate at Kansas in UNCW head coach C.B. McGrath. The two also spent nine years together on Roy Williams' staff at North Carolina.

Following the Friday game in Wilmington, Stanford will make the 170-mile drive to Chapel Hill to face Williams' North Carolina squad at the Dean Smith Center. The Monday matchup will complete a home and home series with North Carolina. The Tar Heels defeated Stanford, 96-72, at Maples Pavilion last season. The Cardinal dropped an 87-76 decision to the Tar Heels on Nov. 28, 1988 and an 89-55 decision on Dec. 20, 1985 in its lone other appearances against North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Stanford will compete in the previously-announced Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas, during the week of Thanksgiving. The Cardinal is part of an eight-team field that includes Florida, Butler, Virginia, Dayton, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Middle Tennessee State. Stanford will play three games from Nov. 21-23. The tournament bracket, including matchups and game times will be announced later in the summer.

December opens with a trip to Kansas for the second time in three years. The Cardinal is in the middle of a four-game series with the Jayhawks, playing at Allen Field House in December of 2016 and meeting KU in Sacramento in a neutral-site contest last December. Stanford and Kansas complete the series with a December game at Maples Pavilion in December of 2019.

Stanford will make its first trip to the University of San Francisco campus in 23 years as the Cardinal with a trip to the Hilltop Dec. 22. Stanford leads the all-time series 46-21, including a 71-59 victory at Maples Pavilion last season.

The Cardinal will host a pair of doubleheaders with the women's basketball team. The Stanford men will face Eastern Washington and the Cardinal women will meet Baylor at Maples Pavilion on Dec. 15. Both teams close the nonconference schedule with a Dec. 29 doubleheader on The Farm that features the men against Long Beach State and the women against CSUN.

The Pac-12 portion of the schedule, along with game times for all 31 regular-season games will be announced in September, once television agreements are finalized.
