STANFORD, Calif. – The Ryder Cup Trophy is coming to The Farm.
Prior to the USA's title defense against Europe on Sept. 28-30 at Le Golf National near Paris, the trophy will make a stop at Stanford Stadium on Sept. 8 for the home football game against USC at 5 p.m. PT.
Stanford is one of 11 U.S. cities on the trophy tour, and it will be accompanied by former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, now a professor and senior fellow at Stanford.
"The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour will allow fans across the country to celebrate and show support for the U.S. Ryder Cup Team, as well as present a rare opportunity to see the iconic trophy right here at home," said American captain Jim Furyk. "As we prepare to compete against Europe in one of the most remarkable events in sports, we want to thank our fans by giving them a special chance to connect with the trophy."
Stanford has a deep connection to the Ryder Cup. Former Cardinal standouts Bob Rosburg (1959), Tom Watson (1977, 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1989) and Tiger Woods (1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012) participated for the U.S. team. Watson also served as captain in 1993 and 2014, while Woods has been named a vice-captain for the September competition but could earn a playing spot through points or a captain's pick.
