Second at Senior Nationals

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford finished second at the recently concluded 2018 Women's Senior Nationals in Southern California.
 
The Cardinal dominated Group B with wins over Bulldog (24-7) and Sunset (14-7) before kicking off bracket play with a 13-4 victory over SOCAL B on Saturday morning. Stanford cruised by Cal later that evening, 11-5, to advance to Sunday's championship against NYAC A. Playing against a team stacked with Stanford alumnae, the current Cardinal came up short in the final, 14-8.
 
Aria Fischer led Stanford in scoring at the tournament, pouring in 12 goals to go along with six assists. Kat Klass also contributed double-digit goals, scoring 10, while Madison Berggren had nine, Sarah Klass seven, Mackenzie Wiley six and Hannah Shabb six.
 
Emalia Eichelberger played in all five games and made 28 saves in 12 quarters of action. Katrina Sturm played eight quarters in the cage and made 11 stops.
 
In the championship, Stanford matched up against a New York Athletic Club side that featured seven former Cardinal in Olympic gold medalists Kiley Neushul, Melissa Seidemann and Maggie Steffens along with Ashley Grossman, Jamie Neushul, Jordan Raney and Gabby Stone.
 
Stanford scored eight on NYAC, which had only given up nine total goals in its first four games. Aria Fischer led the way with four and Kat Klass, Makenzie Fischer, Sarah Klass and Madison Berggren scored once. The Neushul sisters each had two goals for NYAC, Maggie Steffens added another and Gabby Stone played two quarters in the cage and made six saves.
 
That Cardinal is coming off a season in which is finished 20-4 overall, its 14th straight campaign with at least 20 wins, and advanced to its ninth consecutive NCAA title game.
