Center on Watch

STANFORD, Calif. - Rising fifth-year senior Jesse Burkett was named to the Rimington Trophy Fall watch list for the second straight year, as announced Friday.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.

Burkett has started at center each of the past two seasons, paving the way for the Cardinal's trademark rushing attack. In 2017, he was an All-Pac-12 Conference honorable mention and Pac-12 All-Academic second team choice. The Japanese and symbolic systems double major also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the second time.

The center with the most first team All-America votes will be determined the winner. If there is a tie with first team votes, then the center with the most second team votes will win. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by a majority vote from the Rimington Trophy committee. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on Jan. 12.

Stanford begins the 2018 campaign on Aug. 31 against San Diego State. Kickoff at Stanford Stadium is set for 6 p.m. PT.
