National Academic Leaders

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford led the nation with 10 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Monday.

Areta Buness, Allie DaCar, Julia Massaro, Kelsey Murray, Maggie Nick, Madison O'Leary, Cameron Park, Shelby Parks, Dillon Schoen and Sandy Smith were the Cardinal honorees.

Stanford, Brown and Yale were the only programs with double-digit honorees (10 each), while Stanford was the lone NCAA Tournament team with 10 selections. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Stanford was also recognized as a team. The Cardinal earned a team GPA of 3.57 during the 2017-18 academic year and was named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

On the field, this group led the Cardinal (15-5) to the second-most wins in school history which included an 8-2 record in the first Pac-12 regular season. As the second seed, Stanford won the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament championship with a come-from-behind win over third-seeded and No. 20 USC, 15-14, and a dominant performance over top-seeded and 14th-ranked Colorado, 15-6, in Boulder, Colorado. Stanford made its eighth NCAA appearance and seventh in the last nine seasons before falling to Virginia in the first round.
