STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men's and women's tennis programs were once again recognized with the ITA All-Academic Team award and the two teams combined for 16 ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2017-18 season.
With a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.74 (on a 4.00 scale), the Stanford men's program captured its 14th ITA All-Academic Team honor in the 16 years it has been awarded. The Cardinal women were recognized with the ITA All-Academic Team award for the fourth consecutive year, after boasting a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.44.
The 11 individuals honored as Scholar-Athletes for the men include Jack Barber, Nikita Demir, Tom Fawcett, Axel Geller, Michael Genender, William Genesen, Sameer Kumar, Kento Perera, Timothy Sah, Sam Turchetta and David Wilczynski. The Cardinal, ranked No. 7 in the final ITA poll, has had at least eight Scholar-Athletes in one season in five of the last seven years.
Five members of the 2018 NCAA champion women's program were named Scholar-Athletes, including Emily Arbuthnott, Taylor Lallas, Naomie Rosenberg, Paulette Wolak and Elizabeth Yao.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: (1) be a varsity letter winner, (2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and (3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
