Four Medal at U23 Worlds

POZNAN, Poland – Four members of Stanford women's rowing earned medals on Sunday at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships at Lake Malta.

The podium for the women's eight A Final was well-represented by Stanford as Stephanie Grauer helped guide Canada to a gold medal and Kaitlyn Kynast, Alie Rusher and Leigh Warner led the United States to a bronze finish on Sunday.

In a close A Final race on Sunday, Canada moved ahead of the United States around 1,250 meters and held off the field at the finish. Grauer (six seat) and Canada captured the race with a time of 6:04.610. The Netherlands was second with a time of 6:06.580, and the U.S. – Kynast (two-seat), Rusher (five-seat) and Warner (coxswain) – placed third with a time of 6:08.040.

Meg Saunders (three-seat) represented Great Britain in the women's eight, placing fourth in Sunday's A Final with a time of 6:08.230.

The gold medal was Grauer's second in as many years in the Canadian eight at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships. She captured gold with Canada at the 2017 event in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Warner coxed the U.S. women's eight to a silver medal at last year's regatta.

Shepley served in the bow seat of the United States women's four that placed fourth in Sunday's B Final (10th overall) at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships with a time of 6:47.730. The U.S placed third in its heat race last Thursday with a time of 7:10.54 and finished fourth in its repechage last Friday with a time of 7:24.87.
All six of Stanford's Under 23 World Rowing Championships representatives were members of the Cardinal varsity eight, which placed fourth in the NCAA Championships Grand Final in May, helping the Cardinal earn a fourth-place, podium finish as a team. The boat also captured the silver medal at the Pac-12 Championships this season.
